A Cow's Life
In the fields, we see them, stretched out in the grass or grazing peacefully. Large, placid beasts that we think we know because they are livestock. Lions, gorillas, bears have all our attention, but have we ever really looked at cows? Have we wondered what they do with their days? What do they do when a storm passes? When the sun comes back out? What do they think about when they stand still, seeming to contemplate the void? But, in fact, do they think? At the rhythm of the animal, in the middle of a herd, Bovines tells the story of the life of cows, the real one.

"Cinematic chewing of cud has never been so distinct...the framing of these beasts in their tranquil environment could not be more carefully depicted....Each shot lingers and waits for the mood to settle, creating an atmosphere of quiet, almost impassive communion." - Brooklyn Rail
"The film's great asset is to have stuck to the fundamentals. It is the viewer who plows his emotions, who lets his imagination speak towards minimal things, and the reflection comes as always, after the film, and in an open way. We are indeed in front of an offbeat work, which deserves special attention, a warm look" - ACID Cannes
"Bovines chronicles the true life of a cow: grazing, ruminating, gazing – but also feeling – mooing with grief, or just enjoying an apple…" - Institute of Ideas & Imagination
