At the border between Serbia and Croatia, a region where the bloody Yugoslav War is still resonating, there is a heap of sand in the Danube that someone wants to turn into a new nation: Liberland. This micro-nation was founded in 2015 by a Czech politician who claims to have planted his flag on this no man’s land. As the first president of Liberland, he is fully busy shaping his country. But, although Liberland is supported by thousands of aspirant citizens worldwide, there is nothing more yet today than the heap of sand. Is it idealism or are there other goals?
