-- Dir. Emmanuel Marre - 70min - 2013 - Belgium --
Formula 1 hotels are those ultra-budget establishments, commonplace in suburban areas: a low-cost way to "inhabit" the world. Behind the doors of the rooms, the uniformity of the space, reduced to the bare functional minimum, lays bare the tension inherent in every human life: sedentary and nomadic, excess and restraint, routine and survival. While the main character of Chaumière is a standardized hotel, its residents don't let themselves be so easily boxed in. They use, subvert, and disrupt this dream of a sleeping machine.
